Schanz the instrument of the Princes, appendix 1 to the catalogue In search of lost sounds, in which is presented the instrument constructed by Johann Schanz for Cristina Archinlto Trivulsio now forming part of the Fernanda Giulini collection.
The themes of art and music, already present in the catalogue, are continued here in this new book, which is dedicated to the Viennese constructor Johann Schanz, along with a study of Milan in the eighteen hundreds. Grant O’Brien has cured the constructive details of the instrument, Giovanni Paolo Di Stefano the history of Schanz in Italy. Fernando Mazzocca the essay on both the art collection and the passion for music of the Archinto and Trivulzio families. Lavinia Galli and Andreina Bazzi have presented two essays respectively on the rapport which linked the Trivulzio family to the Poldi Pezzoli Museum and on the family crest that belonged to the Archinto family among the most important in Milan’s history. This volume is the first in a series of mono studies on musical keyboard instrument builders.
This publication contains a DVD which can be visualized either via the television or on computer, on which are recorded the works of the classical Viennese – Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert – play on the Schanz combined with images that are the synthesis of art and music.
