Concerto per la Viola concertata, Violino I, II, Corno I, II, Viola, Violone é Basso continuo For many years the subject of the origins of Georg Benda's viola concerti has been rife with errors and confusion. The F-Major concerto is nowadays well-known and cherished by viola players. After the thorough research carried out by Jean-Eric Soucy the F-Major concerto as well as two further E-flat concerti were shown to be not by Georg Benda but indeed compositions by Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Benda (1745–1814), the son of Franz Benda and nephew of Georg Benda. All three concerti exist in manuscripts and have been newly edited for this publication. The concerti are a wonderful addition to the viola repertoire.Their qualities are in no respect inferior to the better known concerti by Stamitz, Hoffmeister and others.
